One major thing I am advocating for is improved reporting. No matter how much work it requires, I believe voters have the privilege of knowing exactly where every dime is being spent. Therefore, I would like to see the treasurer create a list of every expenditure down to the dollar in order to restore trust in our district aside from the regular five year forecast provided to citizens.
As of recently, financial meetings for our district have returned. However, they are mostly unnoticed and not very well advertised. I think added communication and organization could allow for more effective meetings. We can also use those meetings to teach anyone willing to learn how to read a five year forecast, because even I still struggle at times and that reflects poorly on the skill sets we are being provided with to survive in the real world.
If it is true that we are tight on money then we should put our money where our mouth is. When we spend any large amount of money the reason for doing so should be explained and proven as justified. There are absolutely going to be times that we must spend money and if we make any changes to our regular spending it should be explained.
One thing I would love to see happen and that I will continue to fight for is bringing in money aside from the taxpayer. It is absolutely critical that we vote to fund our schools, but I also understand in our current economic status many Spartan residents can barely afford it. You have to convince our residents that our schools are worth their hard earned dollars. Currently, I think that is up for some serious debate. Therefore, if we can fundraise and have things donated to our district to make significant improvements, it will be beneficial for both the district and residents. Then maybe, we can earn back the trust of this community and continue to build a successful district.
